Running a business is no easy feat, and running a law firm may be even harder. Attorney Dagoberto J. Rodriguez is the founder and owner of Rodriguez Law Firm, a law firm specializing in personal injury law in Manassas and Vienna, Virginia. As an immigrant from Venezuela, Mr. Rodriguez’s journey to becoming a US lawyer was a challenging ordeal. Today, the Super Lawyers-certified attorney is reaping the benefits of his hard work and struggles.
Attorney Dagoberto J. Rodriguez was born in Caracas, Venezuela, to a family that gave him a comfortable, opulent life. In pursuit of his dream to become a lawyer, he attended the Universidad Santa Maria, Escuela de Derecho, in Venezuela, where he graduated with a lawyer’s degree. Unfortunately, the reality of his home country’s political and economic challenges began to intrude into his future.
He fled to the United States in October 2001 with limited resources. He could not even speak the language. His new life in the US was drastically different from the one he lived in Venezuela. He had to take on a job to support himself—there was a lot of work that needed to be done if he wanted to continue pursuing his dreams.
The young Rodriguez found a job in construction and took ESL classes to improve his life in the US. He had his mind completely set on becoming a lawyer. This drive came from the need to compete with himself, to better himself, and to be better than he was before. He promised himself that he would become a lawyer even though he did not even speak English.
Through sheer will and hard work, Attorney Dagoberto J. Rodriguez received his Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law. He passed the bar exam and was admitted to legal practice ten years after he first came to the US. Shortly afterward, he worked with immigrants, as he knew what it was to be in the same position.
A few years into his practice, Attorney Dagoberto J. Rodriguez established his own law firm, Rodriguez Law Firm, which has since gained a reputation for success. He has also earned a master of laws from American University.
Today, Attorney Dagoberto J. Rodriguez is licensed in three different states. As the founder of his own law firm, he gets to work the cases that he wants, and he plans to expand his firm beyond the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. As a lawyer, he has helped recover money for countless clients who were injured and needed to pay for medical treatment. He is also proud to say that he has been able to help in his home country in Venezuela amid the country’s economic and political turmoil.
To aspiring lawyers and struggling law students, he only has this to say: Do not let fear dictate what you want to do with your life. It’s a proverb that he has often looked back on whenever he met forks in the road. His decision to establish his own law firm was a risky and expensive one that he made after many calculations and considerations. But he has found it to be the most rewarding and fulfilling experience in his professional life.
Attorney Dagoberto J. Rodriguez thanks his wife and children for their constant support and their belief in his capabilities as well as his parents and parents-in-law for their unconditional support and advice. Most of all, he is grateful for his clients and former clients who have made his grand career possible.
