Brittany Whitaker could hardly believe her eyes as she watched her family’s hard-earned money blowing in the wind. In what was to be their first attempt at farming, she and her husband had bought $20,000 in hayseeds to be planted on their newly purchased land in northern Nevada. The wind started blowing, and there was nothing they could do to prevent the seeds from being swept up in it.
She pulled herself together. She thought hard, What was something she could sustainably do that she could scale to a really big operation? As a stay-at-home mom, she wanted to start a business that she could do at her own pace.
As a young girl, Brittany had always had a knack for business and entrepreneurship. She just loved learning about groundbreaking businessmen and how they innovated entire industries and changed society. Growing up, her success-oriented mindset was fostered by her father. He always encouraged her to do the best she could in everything that she set out to do. He was famous for saying, “You couldn’t fail if you had truly done your very best.”
Brittany grew up, married a doctor, and became committed to the idea of being a stay-at-home on until the hayseed incident. She had to step in. But what could she do? She remembered watching a webinar off Instagram that talked about starting an Amazon business. As she read more about it, she became convinced that it was exactly the kind of business that fit her criteria. She excitedly pitched the idea to her family. She and her husband put in $1,000 to start the company. Thus, their business was born.
It was not great for them in the beginning. She and her family underwent discouraging times filled with rejections that made them seriously doubt their decision. In these moments, they would often take a step back and reassess their plan to see if they were still going in the right direction. And then they would pick up the pace again and take things one day at a time.
Luckily for them, their kind supplier offered them a diligent sales rep that already had significant experience in the industry. With her backing, companies started taking them seriously and taking them up on their offers. Brittany and her team were starting to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The more they worked, the more it stopped feeling like work. They had found something exciting.
Brittany quickly learned that cultivating great relationships in business could lead her company to higher levels of success. The key was in finding great business partners that knew how to cooperate and worked well even when left alone.
After two years in their business, they started hiring more help, and this was when their business really took off. True to her earlier findings, hiring the right people with the appropriate skill sets and the right attitude helped them earn even more.
Despite this, Brittany’s main principle is still “People over profits.” And running a business has only made it clearer to her. Her business partners were the first people to uplift them when they were starting out. She gives back by treating her employees better. She trains them on how to run the business so that they could also do it if they wanted to.
Her success has inspired her to help other people who are stuck in the situation she was in when she first started. She has proven to the world that a stay-at-home mom can succeed in the business world and bring home an income. Now she wants to help other families and mentor them financially. Her ambitious new goal is to mentor a million millionaires.Learn more about Brittany Whitaker on her website and find out what she is up to on Instagram.
