Jennifer Lopez is reflecting , and we can see why: she’s lived a great life. Her next Netflix documentary, Halftime, is due to premiere next month (June 14), and she’s just released a big trailer for it.
The film primarily focuses on one of her most legendary performances – the Superbowl halftime show – while also providing as a retrospective now that she is in her forties. “Everything I had worked for in film, music, and design just started happening” the year she turned 50, the multi-hyphenate confessed in an interview with the New York Times (2019).
JLo’s incredible year in 2019 gets a behind-the-scenes peek. For her portrayal of Ramona in Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers, she got much-deserved critical acclaim (and a Golden Globe nomination). She was awarded the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award for her services to the fashion business, and she broke the internet (again) when she walked the runway at Milan Fashion Week in the iconic Versace jungle dress she wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000. Shakira’s 2020 Super Bowl halftime concert will feature her as the opening act.
We also saw her at her most vulnerable. As she thought on her history, the singer added, “I lived in the public eye and I believed a lot of what others said.” In headlines cut from newspapers, she is referred to as a “diva” and a “serial bride.” Following their split, media branded Ben Affleck “the bad boy who broke her heart.” Critics called her performance “lightweight,” and she was questioned frankly, “How do you feel about your butt?” by an interviewer. “If Jennifer Lopez said, “You can’t sing,” I’d respond, “Neither can you,” Jimmy Kimmel brutally remarks in a flashback interview.
Apart from the documentary, J.Lo has been using her career to give us a glimpse into what life is like in the spotlight. The actress portrayed a lonely superstar in the film Marry Me, in which she consented to marry a stranger on the spur of the moment. She called the role “very exciting and cathartic,” and said she liked “revealing a little bit of what it’s like to live in the public glare.”
“I simply feel extremely fortunate and lucky to be in a wonderful and loving relationship, and I want to do everything I can to safeguard it and keep it safe,” she said of her relationship with Ben Affleck. It truly deserves it. It’s sacred to us.”
The couple has since become engaged, fulfilling all of our 2000s fantasies.
