Fighting for freedom can be daunting, especially if one has to face significant challenges and go against big organizations along the process. Lacy Jermaine Hutchins knows that the freedom he dreams of will not be achieved overnight. Still, he is determined to clear his name and be free from a life sentence without parole. Lacy is a victim of the flawed justice system, and he wants to gather the sympathy of people across the country to support his fight.
Lacy Jermaine Hutchins is currently an inmate at the Telfair State Prison in Chatham County, Georgia. He shared that his county justice system failed to give him a fair and proper trial and put him behind bars to serve a life sentence for a crime he did not commit. “The court system has failed me, and I am now serving a life sentence without parole, yes a life sentence without parole for drugs. I have a thirty-year sentence running concurrently with the recidivist C for having my own prescribed medication in my possession, but the drugs I am presently charged with were not on me or nowhere to be found,” Lacy shared.
Lacy Jermaine Hutchins is just one of the thousands of people across the country who have suffered from prejudice, stereotypes, and the unfair judgment of the justice system. By standing up for himself, emphasizing that he had been wronged, Lacy is opening conversations and allowing others to share their story with the rest of the world. Speaking against his county is a bold move, but Lacy knows that someone has to do it.
Lacy Jermaine Hutchins also aims to gain the support of various celebrities who have used their influence on the prison reform act. Lacy wants to gain as much attention from the public as he can to reopen his case and push the Chatham County justice system to conduct a retrial.
“I just want my freedom back and to live without worrying about getting harassed by law enforcement agencies because they think or feel like I’m doing something wrong in the community,” said Lacy
Furthermore, Lacy Jermaine Hutchins knows how difficult it is for him to win against his case. Before he was put behind bars, Lacy lived a happy life with his family, doing the best at everything he could every day to give them a comfortable life. He even shared that he aims to become a successful entrepreneur managing a multi-million dollar in the future, building a lasting legacy for generations to come. But Lacy was robbed of the freedom to pursue such passions when he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
While Lacy Jermaine Hutchins is equipped with enough fighting spirit, his finances are currently slim to finance his fight for freedom. Hence, he set up a GoFundMe page where people can donate for him to hire a lawyer that would help him in his journey. “I don’t want to end up as another statistic in prison lost like a needle in a haystack,” he said. Lacy is also reaching out to supporters through change.org to sign on his behalf.
