For a single day, at least 102 pizzerias across Long Island will donate $5 from every pizza sold to support those affected by the tragic bus crash involving the Farmingdale High School marching band. The accident occurred in Orange County on September 21. The fundraiser, organized by Long Island Pizza Strong, will take place on October 25. The proceeds will go to the students injured in the crash, the families of Gina Pellettiere and Bea Ferrari who lost their lives, and the school for marching band equipment.
The initiative has garnered widespread support, not just from pizzeria owners in the Farmingdale area but from the entire Long Island community. Susan Perna, a volunteer with Long Island Pizza Strong, emphasized the unity among Long Islanders when tragedy strikes. Vico, an Italian restaurant in Farmingdale, has extended its support by donating $5 for every pizza sold from October 24 to October 31.
The crash has had a profound impact on the community, both emotionally and financially. Many students on the bus have medical expenses that insurance won’t fully cover. The emotional toll is also significant, with students likely needing therapy for trauma. Long Island Pizza Strong aims to alleviate some of these burdens through their fundraising efforts.
