Travel is an exciting experience for everyone. Yet as adventurous as traveling might be, one thing that each traveler needs to have in mind is travel insurance and protection. In this age of greater mobility and transportation, a business startup called Rene is revolutionizing the way individuals and companies travel by making insurance and protection intuitive.
When the COVID-19 pandemic erupted, traveling abroad became complicated and stressful. Studies show that as many as 56 percent of travelers who are traveling abroad do not know if their current health insurance policy covers any health emergencies or hospitalizations in a foreign country. To add insult to injury, most insurance companies globally do not have coverage in countries apart from their origins.
While no one ever prays for medical emergencies while traveling, whether for work or pleasure, many of these unwanted scenarios come unannounced. And with most travelers ill-equipped and ill-prepared for these instances, an emergency like fall accidents, coronavirus infections, food poisoning, or any other problems can most likely turn into a disaster costing individuals thousands of dollars in unplanned medical fees.
That’s where Rene comes in. The company helps travelers around the globe by providing tailored travel insurance complemented by telemedicine services, wellness programs, and health care access no matter what part of the world they are heading to. Rene provides its clients with an AI-powered technology that readily matches travelers with the right kind of insurance needed for a particular trip. They also provide online directories, travel advisories, COVID-19 updates, and emergency services.
Gustavo Lindenberg, Chief Technology Officer of Rene and creator of the algorithm, said, “This industry hasn’t seen any significant change in the past decade, I crafted this solution putting the needs of the traveler first. We take into consideration over 10 different parameters to offer the right type of insurance plan for every trip.”
Another robust feature at Rene is its Telemedicine program, offering online consultation services with certified doctors. The program gives users access to twenty-four-seven access to a network of doctors via phone or video no matter where you are in the world.
The program is the direct result of the genius of the tech-savvy entrepreneur, Atilio Spaccarotella, who hails from Newport Beach, California. The startup jock’s greater mission is to help travelers stay safe and healthy on their journeys. Currently, Atilio is working on raising seed funding for the startup to expand the company’s coverage and services. Rene has already received backing from major venture capital firm Quake Capital, which specializes in seed-stage investment, and Nex Cubed, which mostly works on accelerating health care startups. “We were impressed by what Rene achieved in such a short period, and how its team was able to adapt and thrive during the coronavirus pandemic,” shares managing partner of Quake Capital Jason Fernandez.
Today Atilio and his team look to secure more funding that will allow them to expand their reach and capabilities. With access to more resources, the company looks to market to luxury travel agencies throughout the United States, which will increase their client base. Securing partnerships with travel agents will bridge the gap between travelers who are often unaware of the dangers they face when moving uninsured and the company’s most readily available protection services.
With Rene, the team hopes to change the way people travel, completely removing risks and unnecessary costs that unprecedented emergencies happen. And in a time where people take more risks, insurance has never been a greater need.
