The Obamas have completely put behind them their eight year stint as the first family in the United States, and six years since their last day in office, Barack and Michelle Obama have completely assumed new roles in entertainment. The most recent information on the former President and first lady is their agreement with Audible, which Amazon owns.
Amazon’s audiobook and podcast service, Audible, and Higher Ground, the production firm owned by Barack and Michelle Obama, have signed an exclusive multi-year first-look production arrangement. It contains numerous audio projects that will be made available worldwide and provides Audible first crack at Higher Ground content.
It was not made public what the deal cost or how long it would last.
Following news that the Obamas had reportedly severed their relationship with Spotify in April, Audible has now revealed a new agreement. 2019 saw the establishment of that agreement.
“At Higher Ground, we have always sought to elevate up voices that deserve to be heard — and Audible is invested in realizing that goal alongside us,” the former President Obama said in a statement. I am excited to work with them to tell stories that will both inspire and amuse.
“There’s no one we’d prefer write our next chapter with than Audible,” the former First Lady continued.
Together, we will continue to tell fascinating, provocative, and emotional stories while doing everything we can to ensure that the right people hear them, she said in a statement.
The Obamas’ participation in the entertainment business has continued since leaving the White House in 2017, and this arrangement is only one aspect.
Additionally, Netflix and Higher Ground have exclusive production partnerships and produced numerous films and TV episodes that have won awards. For instance, “American Factory” won the Academy Award for the best documentary feature in 2019. The film is about a Chinese business opening a working-class Ohio factory.
In terms of its audio projects, Higher Ground has created podcasts like “Renegades: Born in the USA,” which features conversations between the former President and rock star Bruce Springsteen, and “The Michelle Obama Podcast,” which is the “most listened to Spotify Original to date,” according to the business.
