Sometimes, one unexpected opportunity is all it takes to turn one’s life around. This is how actor Dusty Cash got his start in the entertainment industry. Aside from acting, Dusty is also expanding his career as a model, singer, and songwriter. As a man who believes he was born to entertain, this unexpected series of events that led him to his current acting career has been an incredible experience.
Dusty Cash grew up on a ranch in Oklahoma. “I really was a cowboy. And I loved the life I had growing up,” Dusty shared. And for a time, he thought he would live his life always connected to the ranch or the desert. But acting opportunities came knocking and took Dusty’s career in a different direction.
“To this day, I don’t know for sure how everything happened. One day I was sitting on my rig in Del Rio, drilling pipe into the dirt, and the next thing I knew, I was dressed in 1920s clothes standing next to Leonardo DiCaprio in the latest Scorsese movie!”
His experience on the Scorsese film Killers of the Flower Moon was memorable for Dusty Cash. “Scorsese handpicked me himself from hundreds of background actors. I played the role of ‘Oilfield Recruiter,’ and I think my time working on the rig has helped prepare me for that certain role. He also said he gave me the part because of my distinctive voice,” Dusty said.
Following his first film role, he proceeded to work with Danny Boyle, another award-winning director. “I was cast as a police officer in Danny Boyle’s miniseries Pistol. The show was about the events surrounding the Sex Pistols’ 1978 US Tour,” explained Dusty.
More opportunities opened up for Dusty Cash to develop his acting career, and he soon found himself working on a Taylor Sheridan project. This project was the prequel to Yellowstone, titled 1883, which stars country superstar Tim McGraw. “What was amazing about that job was I started out playing a Russian immigrant. I played one of the key featured characters, walking with the wagon train along the Oregon Trail. Then I got called to be Tim McGraw’s stand-in,” Dustin recalled, “Working closely with Tim inspired me a lot. He was so passionate about acting and his music. As someone who is only starting in the entertainment industry, it was such a joy to see someone so passionate about what we were doing, and it encouraged me to keep on working.”
Recently, Dusty Cash also appeared in The Other Ripken, a short film directed by Tim Carr. His performance in that film did not go unnoticed, and he received several nominations and won a recognition trophy at the IndieFest Film Awards.
Dusty Cash may be a newcomer to the entertainment industry, but he has so much passion for it. His colleagues have described him as talented, witty, determined, and clever. He has also earned a reputation as someone who is fun and easy to work with.
“No one works as hard as me, and no one plays as hard as me. I have found my calling, and I fully intend to keep working as an actor and a singer,” he said.
