On Friday, July 19, Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF) Founding Chair Audrey Gruss and Advisory Board member Arthur Dunnam hosted a committee dinner for donors for the ninth annual Race of Hope to Defeat Depression, a 5K run/walk in August that raises awareness and funds for depression research.
The event was hosted at the home of Audrey and her husband Martin Gruss in Southampton. It was a gathering attended by a select group of Race of Hope committee members and guests. The attendees included notable individuals from various professional and social circles, making the event an intimate and distinguished affair.
Guests arrived along a pathway lined with stunning hydrangea bushes in full bloom and enjoyed drinks by the pool. They were then seated for dinner at tables adorned with vibrant yellow roses and sunflowers in the Gruss’ elegantly appointed pool house. The night’s menu included Andalusian Gazpacho, Veal Marengo, and a Peach Tart for dessert.
At the end of the night, guests took home gift bags, which featured Revo sunglasses, SiO neck and face cream, a copy of Hamilton Jewelers’ Accent Magazine, a HOPE Fragrance candle, a Michelle Farmer boutique gift card, and a KIP sleepwear gift card to pre-order a custom HDRF pajama set in the foundation’s signature colors of yellow and grey.
On Sunday, August 4, Founding Senior Master Instructor at SoulCycle, acclaimed author and mental health advocate Stacey Griffith, will be the celebrity Grand Marshal for the Ninth Annual Race of Hope to Defeat Depression in Southampton Village at 8:30 AM. HDRF Founding Chair Audrey Gruss and HDRF Advisory Board member Arthur Dunnam, both Hamptons residents, will join Griffith as Co-Grand Marshals. The Race of Hope is the grand finale of the Week of Hope, whereby stores through Southampton village display a large, yellow flag in front of their doors to raise mental health awareness. Stores all along Main Street and Jobs Lane such as Jennifer Miller Jewelry, Johnny Was, Paul Stuart, Ralph Lauren and Veronica Beard, a major HDRF sponsor. The Race of Hope attracts over 500 participants from the tri-state area and beyond to unite as a community and raise mental health awareness and fund depression research. 100% of revenues from the Race go to groundbreaking research into the root causes of depression in the brain and new and better treatments. About Hope for Depression Research Foundation:
HDRF was founded in 2006 by philanthropist Audrey Gruss in memory of her mother Hope, who struggled with clinical depression. The mission of the HDRF is to spur the innovative brain research into the origins, medical diagnosis, new treatments, and prevention of depression and its related mood disorders – bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder, and suicide. The World Health Organization has declared depression as the leading cause of disability worldwide, and yet conventional medications today are outdated and do not fully work for 50% of patients. HDRF is working tirelessly to improve the mental health landscape for every American. The Foundation has provided more than $75 million through over 200 grants for breakthrough depression research that assures to transform the way depression is viewed, diagnosed, treated and prevented. Currently, HDRF has a potential new class of medication in pilot clinical trials at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and Stanford University. HDRF is also funding clinical trials into other novel therapeutics and diagnostic tests at Johns Hopkins, University of San Diego, and the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
