Q: Where do you draw inspiration from when creating new hairstyles, and how do you stay creatively motivated?

A: My clients always want to see me inspired and full of new ideas. I attend training sessions, fashion shows, and professional competitions every 2-3 months.

Q: What has been the most rewarding moment in your career so far, and why does it stand out to you?

A: At 22, I have taken part in a hairdressing competition held in Ukraine in the category of Men’s Hairstyle. This moment stands out to me because it was a pivotal point in my career, validating my skills and hard work on a national stage. Competing against hundreds of talented stylists was an incredible honor and boosted my confidence immensely. It also opened up numerous opportunities for me, leading to my move to Kyiv and my eventual role as Art Director at Maija, an international beauty salon chain.

However, another gratifying moment came later in my career when I had the opportunity to see how stylists work during the Ukrainian Fashion Week. Witnessing such a prestigious event, collaborating with renowned designers like Andre Tan, and contributing to the vibrant fashion scene in my country was an unforgettable experience. The thrill of seeing my work on the runway and the positive reception it received was immensely gratifying.

Q: How has technology impacted your work as a hair stylist, from tools to social media, and how do you leverage it in your profession?

A: The secret to a modern stylist’s success lies in three key elements: fundamental knowledge, the use of high-quality professional tools, and the ability to leverage social media as a tool to promote oneself.

Q: Can you describe a time when you transformed a client’s look in a way that significantly impacted their confidence or style?

A: Once, a client came to me with beautiful hair that had the wrong color and cut for her. During our conversation, she mentioned that she struggled to advance her career due to a lack of self-confidence. After her transformation, many positive changes occurred in her life. She found a high-paying job and met a new partner.

Q: What common hair care myths do you encounter, and what truths can you share to debunk them?

A: One of the most common myths is about hair treatments, such as presenting keratin straightening as a care treatment that heals hair. However, this is not entirely true, as this procedure is designed to straighten and smooth hair. It affects the deeper layers of the hair and changes its structure. It is important to note that this is not a treatment; it is a chemical procedure.

Q: How do cultural and global trends influence your work, and can you give an example of a hairstyle inspired by your Ukrainian origin?

A: Global trends undoubtedly influence my worldview. Ukrainian culture is very interesting and distinctive. Wreaths, fresh flowers, and braids have been used to create a significant number of looks. These elements are always incredibly feminine and captivating.

Q: How do you keep your skills and knowledge up to date in such a fast-evolving industry? Are there specific courses or mentors you follow?

A: In our profession, it is crucial to continuously develop. Fashion evolves daily, and to stay current, I regularly attend various online and offline training sessions. I have previously studied in London at reputable hairdressing academies: Toni&Guy, Vidal Sassoon, Dessange Paris, and SACO Academy. Currently, I am a proponent of the new hair coloring technique, Air Touch.

Q: How do you balance the artistic aspect of hairstyling with your clients’ practical needs? Can you provide an example of a creative yet wearable hairstyle you designed?

A: When creating looks, I utilize all the skills available to me: mastery, experience, and new trends. To create a fashionable look, it isn’t necessary to create a super creative haircut; just a few touches can make the look impeccable.
