For more than two decades, Shadin Hossain, the owner of Galleria on Third, has built his small framing shop into one of New York City’s hidden gems. Nestled now at its new location at 907 2nd Avenue near the United Nations, Galleria on Third isn’t just a place for high-quality framing. It’s a story of perseverance, community, and giving back.

Born and raised in Bangladesh, Shadin immigrated to the U.S. at 17 with little knowledge of English or American culture. He began his journey working in a small framing shop, an unexpected start that would eventually lead to him opening his own business in 1999. Since then, Galleria on Third has become one of the exceptional framing shops in the city, beloved not only for its museum-quality work but for the heart and dedication behind every project.

But the journey hasn’t been without obstacles. Like many small businesses, Galleria on Third faced severe challenges over the last few years. Between the homelessness and construction issues at its previous 529 3rd Avenue location, and the economic struggles brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Shadin’s resilience has been put to the test. Yet, throughout these hurdles, he has kept his focus on what matters most—his community.

What sets Galleria on Third apart from other framing shops isn’t just its impeccable work, which has earned rave reviews from customers and celebrities alike, including Paul Rudd and United Nations Ambassadors. It’s Shadin’s commitment to giving back.

For over ten years, Shadin has hosted Benefit Art Shows at the gallery, raising funds for causes such as The Smile Train, World Vision, Bellevue Hospital, St. Jude, and The Alzheimer’s Association. His charitable work has been recognized in publications like the New York Daily News and earned him the title of NY1’s “New Yorker of the Week.” During the pandemic, Shadin launched the New York Tough campaign, selling original NYC-themed artwork with proceeds benefiting first responders.

“I’ve been very fortunate to do what I love in a city that I love,” says Shadin. “Through all of its ups and downs, New York City and my customers have always supported the work we do, and now, it’s our turn to give back in even bigger ways.”

As the world faced the challenges of COVID-19, Shadin expanded his efforts, not just locally, but globally. Through a new initiative called DesignFly24, a subsidiary of Galleria on Third, Shadin has been working with students in Bangladesh, helping them develop digital skills. DesignFly24 offers services such as website creation, LinkedIn profile setup, and online marketing to help struggling businesses thrive online during difficult times.

“Seeing families struggle during the pandemic broke my heart,” says Shadin. “So, I reached out to my home country and found a way to support students and businesses, empowering them to succeed.”

This November, Galleria on Third will celebrate the grand opening of its new location in Turtle Bay at 907 2nd Avenue. The move represents not only a fresh start for the gallery but also a commitment to maintaining affordability for its customers. Shadin proudly announces that Galleria on Third will continue to offer 1999 prices on select services through December, making high-quality framing accessible to more people during these trying times. 

Despite the struggles of recent years, Shadin is optimistic about the future of his business. “Our new space feels like a fresh beginning,” he says. “I’m excited to continue offering excellent framing services in the city while staying true to our mission of supporting the community.”

With this new chapter, Galleria on Third remains a testament to the power of small businesses and the heart behind them. As Shadin puts it, “At Galleria on Third, we don’t just frame art—we frame hope, generosity, and a brighter future for all.”
