In the Midst of a Global Pandemic, Scarlett Johansson Shares That She Considered ‘Intentional Intimacy’ When Planning Her Wedding to Colin Jost

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on, the world is still reeling back from all the adverse effects that the virus has brought about. Indeed, these are dark and challenging times, and for a wedding to push through at such a delicate time, it would take a whole lot of planning for it to be successful without seeming too out of touch. Suffice to say, Scarlett Johannson has managed to pull off such an astounding feat, having her October wedding to Colin Jost during the global pandemic.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the Marvel superstar shares, “I think just keeping it intimate and small made it feel intentional. We wanted it to feel like it had an intentional intimacy as opposed to being something that felt like we were restricted by all these things.” The wedding took all of the COVID-19 precautions into full consideration for the event following CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of all their guests.

The couple got engaged in May 2019, two years after they began dating. Scarlett Johansson debuted her 11-carat engagement ring at San Diego Comic-Con in July. “He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic. But yeah, I was surprised,” she said, recounting the proposal to Ellen DeGeneres in October. “Even if you kind of imagine what that moment’s gonna be like, it’s still a beautiful moment,” added Johansson.

The event was held at Johansson’s home in Palisades, New York. The event was only planned for a few weeks with just close friends and family attending. Jost himself admittedly says that he doesn’t “have taste in things” and took a backseat role in the wedding planning.  “I never grew up imagining my dream wedding, like, ‘This is what I want,'” explained Jost. “I imagined my dream partner rather than my dream wedding. There’s a lot of details to it that I just didn’t even consider.”

Despite all the wedding planning and COVID precautions, the couple was still very happy to celebrate the moment with all of their loved ones. “Some people we hadn’t been able to really see so much over this past year,” she adds. “So that was really special…We felt really fortunate that we were able to do it,” says Johansson.

The news of their union was made even more special because they let Meals on Wheels America announce the news on social media while requesting fans to donate to the non-profit.

The Black Widow star is also currently promoting her partnership with HumanCo and its brand of organic frozen pizza bites, Snow Days.

Her daughter Rose was instrumental in Johansson’s recent decision to invest in HumanCo and become the creative director of Snow Days. She expresses that convenience and nutrition should be accessible to people worldwide, which is why she opted to offer her efforts toward the thoughtful venture.
