Nigeria has the potential to become a global leader in the logistics sector, and Michael Makinde believes that he can help the country achieve that goal. As a logistics and supply chain professional with over 25 years of experience, Makinde has a deep understanding of the industry and what it takes to succeed.
Makinde’s expertise has been recognized both locally and internationally. He has attended the Lagos Business School, where he earned Advanced Certification in Supply Chain Management. Additionally, he holds certifications as an International Trade Logistics Specialist and a Certified Exporter from the International Import Export Institute in Arizona, USA. He is also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK and a member of the Institute of Purchasing and Supply in the UK.
Makinde has a clear vision for how Nigeria can maximize the logistics sector for accelerated growth. He believes that the government needs to implement enabling business reforms along the key value chain and port reforms that will ensure easy access and evacuation from the ports, as well as value-added exports. Makinde knows that if the logistics sector is properly harnessed, it can serve as the path to building a strong economy that can support government revenue and improve Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.
Over the last 25 years, Makinde has led different segments within the supply chain, providing practical and effective strategies in the area of supply chain innovation, technology innovation, operations management, and policy formulation that have enabled the sector on the local and global front. Makinde is a member of the think-tank for the formulation and implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, which is designed to enhance cross-border trade, eliminate barriers to trade, and deploy technology as a tool to accelerate intra-regional trade. As a member of the logistics and transport thematic focus, he worked with committee members to advance critical reforms on stronger bilateral relations and intra-regional cooperation as the foundation for a virile transport and logistics sector in Africa.
Makinde’s advocacy for improved levels of value-added export, bridging infrastructure deficits, and committing to stronger bilateral relations has made him a respected member of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Manufacturer Association of Nigeria, where he is currently the Vice president of Non-metallic section.
Makinde’s passion for the logistics sector and his expertise make him a valuable asset to Nigeria. With the right reforms and investments, Nigeria can become a logistics powerhouse, providing employment opportunities for its people, supporting its economy, and boosting its foreign exchange earnings.
