Console Vault’s famous safes are now available for the home or office! The company, which makes premium vehicle safes that hide right in the central console of your car or truck, has recently released its first safe designed to be installed in the wall of your home or office. Called the “Red Herring Series Diversion Wall Safe,” it deters criminals who would never think to look inside an electrical panel — which is what it looks like.

What inspired Console Vault to head in this new direction of safes for the home or workplace? “We listened to our customer feedback, and an in-home safe was a top request,” answers Scott Bonvissuto, President of Console Vault.

Console Vault has now answered customers’ calls with its innovative Red Herring Series Diversion Wall Safe.

Introducing the Red Herring Series Diversion Wall Safe

A “red herring” is a fallacy in which an arguer attempts to distract the listener from the main point of a debate by bringing up unrelated information. In the same way, Console Vault’s new safe for the home is designed to distract thieves away from the things they would most want to steal.

“Traditionally, safes for the home or workplace tend to grab thieves’ attention,” Bonvissuto says. “This safe is designed to fly underneath thieves’ radar. Not only are your valuables safe and secure in a heavy-duty lockbox, but criminals won’t even take an interest in the location where they are stored. The industry term for this type of safe would be a diversion safe.”

Console Vault’s Red Herring Series Diversion Wall Safe looks like an electrical panel from the outside. “Stickers on the outside identify it as an electrical panel, and if you open up the part that leads to the locking mechanism, there are even fuses with danger signs,” Bonvissuto explains. “Yes, the fuses are real. In keeping with the hyper-realistic design, we use actual bus fuses to draw away any suspicion.”

How the Red Herring Series Diversion Wall Safe excels

Previous diversion safes have weaknesses that Console Vault’s version remedies. “Many devices grouped into this category lean more into the camouflage aspect and can fall short on the actual security features,” Bonvissuto says. For instance, diversion safes that look like cans of soup, hair brushes, or flower pots usually don’t have an actual lock to keep people out. Nothing would stop someone familiar with that kind of diversion safe from accessing the possessions inside it.

In contrast, Console Vault is serious about providing security in addition to deflection. “We put just as much consideration into the locking mechanism itself, as well as the added functionality of the opening mechanism, as we did with the camouflage,” Bonvissuto says.

The Red Herring Series Wall Safe lock is a four-digit mechanical model that befuddles thieves with 10,000 possible combinations. Owners can set the code of their choice.

A Sneak peek inside the Console Vault Wall Safe

The cavity inside the Red Herring Series Diversion Wall Safe is a roomy 3.2 inches deep by 11.7 inches high and 14.3 inches wide. Made from heavy-gauge steel with tamper-resistant tabs and notch seams, it’s the perfect place to store valuables and firearms.

One of the photos of the wall safe’s interior on the company’s website shows a handgun nested in a holster against the door. This is a standard feature of these safes. “The holster is just your basic handgun sleeve, but we rivet it to the safe for easy storage and quick access,” Bonvissuto explains. “Additional customization is easy as well, and we have seen people use gun magnets, among other things, to allow easy placement of their firearm in the safe.”

The wall safe also has a small compartment inside it on the bottom right-hand side. “That is a shelf intended to help with organization,” Bonvissuto says. “I think it is perfect for extra ammunition or smaller valuables. When designing the Red Herring, we really tried to maximize the space while keeping in mind the location and ability to remain stealthy and disguised.”

Installing a Console Vault Red Herring Series Wall Safe

Installation is surprisingly simple. “The safe needs to fit inside the wall, so we strategically sized the width to fit between two standard 16-inch on-center wall studs,” Bonvissuto says. “All the necessary hardware is included with the safe. All you need is a utility knife or drywall saw and a drill to put it in.”

The process of installing the safe takes about 15 to 20 minutes. While nearly any wall with standard wall studs would work, Bonvissuto recommends choosing a location in your utility room. “Other electrical boxes are present to enhance the illusion of the product so it looks like it is meant to be there,” he explains. While the safe could be painted, he does not recommend this. “It is intentionally designed to look like an electrical panel, blending in with the typical utility-room home environment,” he says.

Bringing Innovative Security Solutions to the Home and Office

Console Vault’s new Red Herring Series Wall Safe offers unparalleled concealment for residences and other buildings. “When the company got its start over 20 years ago, we took on the motto ‘Innovative Security Solutions,’” Bonvissuto says. “The Red Herring Series Wall Safe is truly the embodiment of a solution that is both secure and innovative.”

Thanks to the Console Vault Red Herring Series Diversion Wall Safe, you can now secure your valuables and firearms no matter where you are: on the road, at home, or in the office.
