Storytellers are massively important figures in our culture. If not for stories, we wouldn’t be where we are today. They are touchstones of progress that come in a variety of forms, such as art and media. Nowadays, these stories are being told by a diverse set of storytellers whose voices are different from their peers. Yet some voices tend to become louder than the rest. These underrepresented voices are what Evette Vargas hopes to show to the world.
Much of these underrepresented voices come from minority groups such as the Latinx, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ communities. There are also women who don’t get to share the same opportunities as men in their field. Evette Vargas hopes to change all of that, championing change from within an industry that has lauded her as a successful figure.
Evette Vargas herself is a talented writer, director, and producer. Through her massive platform, she has made it her mission to represent underrepresented storytellers and help them get their voices out there and tell their unique stories to the world. In line with this goal, she closely works with minority communities who have the right amount of talent to make it big in the industry.
She eventually established The Writers Room 5050 Foundation, Inc. as a means to further her goal and foster a community of like-minded individuals who share the same amount of passion toward getting their voices heard and their stories told. Evette spent over a decade of her life mentoring and advocating for diversity within the media industry, which is why The Writers Room 5050 Foundation was initially born.
The organization supports and mentors storytellers to mold their skills and become important figures for major projects within the entertainment scene. Evette’s unwavering activism has helped change the industry from within. She vows to see her advocacy through and through regardless of the challenges that she may face today and in the years to come.
Evette Vargas had personally mentored five highly skilled screenwriters in 2019. These individuals come from diverse communities and from different walks of life. Evette inspired them to push the boundaries of the entertainment industry through their creativity and talent. So she organized a writer’s room setting where they broke a season arc of the popular BBC series Killing Eve.
Suffice to say, the entire project was a huge success. All of the 20 actors who participated in the table read were absolutely impressed by the writing skills of those who trained under Evette. This particular experience inspired Evette Vargas to pursue her mentoring career and help more and more talented writers maximize their potential.
Evette isn’t just a mentor, and she has proven time and time again that she has what it takes to become a massive figure in the entertainment industry through her writing. Throughout the years, she has accepted massive projects as an immersive storyteller. She was named as an Artist to Watch by the New York Times, and she has produced a variety of shows for MTV, Amazon, DirectTv, Bravo, and many other platforms.
Evette also did interactive content for major projects such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Madonna, Fast and Furious, and the Wu-Tang Clan. She executive produced, wrote, and directed a digital series starring Henry Rollins called Dark Prophet. The series was nominated for two Emmys.
Evette Vargas has also managed to sell her drama series, Muses, to TNT Super Deluxe. She also developed a drama series at GMG Television with Rosario Dawson and March Guggenheim as executive producers. Nowadays, she is keeping herself busy by creating yet another drama series for Entertainment One with Peter Johnson. She is also currently developing a project with Gamechanger Pictures.
Evette’s remarkable credentials definitely put her writing prowess on full display, and her mentorship experience through The Writers Room 5050 Foundation, Inc. has also shown amazing results.
