You heard it here first: Adam Houlahan’s new book is here, so we can now be the first to share the title and an overview. This book is a recommended read for business leaders looking to grow their businesses while managing costs and maintaining flexibility.
It’s hard enough writing and publishing one business book that flies off the shelves. Adam Houlahan, founder and CEO of specialist LinkedIn marketing agency Prominence Global, has done that three times, so you can expect this one to be of similar quality.
How Is This Book Different From the First Three?
When we caught up with Houlahan for a sneak preview a couple of months ago, we heard that this is not just another sequel to his first three.
While those books dug deep into the intricacies of B2B marketing on LinkedIn, this one, his fourth, focuses on a strategy that’s been instrumental in helping him to grow Prominence Global and help his clients do the same.
A Problem and a Proven Solution
Houlahan reminded us that small- to medium-sized business owners in most regions often face staffing-related challenges. The pandemic has changed global talent markets forever. In most larger Western economies, it’s consistently proving difficult to source great talent locally, and salary expectations are often well beyond the budgets of smaller businesses.
Facing this dynamic in his business at Prominence Global, Houlahan decided several years ago to reduce his dependency on local recruitment. While he still has a small number of key team members based in or very near his home office in Australia’s Gold Coast, he has built what he calls a “distributed team.”
He has team members in almost all time zones across the vast continent of Australia and several other countries, including South Africa, the Philippines, India, and Eastern Europe. At least one team member regularly travels to the USA.
As Houlahan points out, “It was effective for our business, and some of our clients who observed the transition expressed interest in adopting it as well.”
More Than Just A Book
This strategy has been so successful for Houlahan’s business that he has in fact launched a dedicated service to employers keen to capitalize on the benefits of offshore talent sourcing. It’s called Remote Team Connect and is a significant departure from traditional agency recruitment. Houlahan emphasizes that while this service helps his clients source offshore talent, it’s primarily a marketing strategy, positioning businesses as globally focused employers of choice and giving them the flexibility to scale.
And the Title of the Book?
We’ll get to that in a minute. First, we wanted Houlahan to explain how this new strategy differs from traditional recruitment methods. Here’s what he said.
“It’s probably easier to explain by looking at what a business owner typically experiences when they engage a traditional recruitment agency.
- Most recruiters tend to specialize in specific job roles and industries
- Most recruiters rely on locally based talent to source candidates and have little experience with the intricacies of sourcing talent outside their home country
- Traditional talent sourcing methods may be reactive and often rely on candidates applying to publicly advertised positions.
- Because traditional recruitment is generally reactive, it may sometimes be slower to meet business needs.
- Recruitment agencies typically charge placement fees based on a percentage of the successful candidate’s salary. This can make the fees variable and sometimes influenced by the candidates’ salary levels.
Prominence Global’s Remote Team Connect service is quite the opposite and eliminates all those issues. It’s a highly cost-effective alternative that typically delivers results in a fraction of the time traditional recruitment campaigns involve.”
That’s A Big Claim
Since those are pretty bold claims, we pushed him to provide more details. He explained that while there’s much more to it, three crucial factors are fundamentally important.
The first is the way the job postings are crafted. Getting a clear brief from the client is crucial, which is also true of traditional recruitment. What’s different about Remote Team Connect is his expert copywriters’ strategy in structuring and compiling the advertisements. They may attract a much higher number of potentially qualified candidates.
Secondly, Prominence Global has experience with LinkedIn’s proactive search and marketing capabilities, which can offer different approaches than traditional recruiters.
Thirdly, Prominence Global’s proprietary screening methodologies may deliver qualified interview lists in as little as 72 hours.
There’s a lot more detail to explore to understand exactly how this works, and as Houlahan pointed out with a mischievous chuckle, you’ll have to read the book for that.
So, What’s The Book Called?
