Erika Schlick: A Cooking Mastermind

For the last two years, we have said “during the pandemic,” “through the pandemic,” and “in quarantine” more times than we can remember. Life changed drastically, and we had to adjust to a new normal — a new normal that continues to change with multiple variants of the virus, vaccines, masks, and mandates. But throughout this period, people have looked for different activities to keep them entertained and distracted. One that became extremely popular was cooking. Thanks to this, we became aware of the existence of Erika Schlick, a cooking mastermind.

2020 presented a rise in the number of individuals who began cooking at home and exploring different recipes. Towards the end of the year, 70% of Americans were preparing most of their meals at home. This was a significant change compared to previous years when people continued to go out and order in. TV shows, mostly news shows, realized there was a larger interest in seeing recipes prepared on live TV. And luckily for us, a large number of them asked Erika Schlick to show us how it is done.

Schlick is known for her blog, The Trail to Health, and her cookbook, The Wandering Palate. She has been crafting and perfecting recipes that help individuals lead healthier lives throughout the years. She is better known for her gluten-free and paleo meals, which she includes in her book. Then, it was no surprise that multiple shows asked her to showcase some of her recipes on live television.

But how could it all be done during a pandemic? Schlick had the perfect setting in her home’s kitchen. Connecting virtually with the hosts of shows like Indy Style, The Morning Blend Milwaukee, and Great Day Houston, she brought healthy and delicious recipes to thousands of individuals quarantining at home.

“During the pandemic,” “through the pandemic,” and “in quarantine” became phrases that we relate to dark, sad, and unprecedented times. Months — years now — in which we did not know what would happen, and we had to learn to live life differently. Luckily, there were individuals shining their light on us during those times with their talent, knowledge, and positive energy. One of them was Erika Schlick, a cooking mastermind, who brought us happiness in the form of meals prepared from the comfort of her home, making us feel a little less alone and a lot hungrier.
