Kurtland Elliott II, better known as the dynamic comedian and actor Brutha Luv, was born September 22, 1996, in Washington, DC. When he was nine years old, his family moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland. The comedian and actor is a hustler in life, as he currently works as a server and a bouncer at clubs. But when he is not doing that, he focuses on building his comedy and acting career.
You can find Brutha Luv’s work on Instagram. He has been featured on different platforms such as WordStar, Shaderoom, DMVDaily, MoCoShow, DMVhoodz and Newz, and onthisdateinhiphop. In addition, his video content has gotten the attention and likes of different celebrities and artists such as R&B singer and actress Brandy, R&B artist Keyshia Cole, Artist Ceelo Green, Actor Kel Mitchell, Actor Michael Rainy, who played Tyriq from Power.
Brutha Luv always could make others laugh. His cousins, mom, dad, grandparents, and even kids at school. Even when his teachers had to call his parents because he was disrupting the class, Brutha Luv is committed to growing his craft and contributing to the comedy and acting industry. He is currently attending John Casablanca’s Acting & Modeling School.
After watching Kings of Comedy, something inside him wanted to be like that too. Eventually, acting came. He remembers quoting every movie line down to a tea from any movie he saw. Brutha Luv’s comedy prowess can reach audiences of any age. He wants to attract different people from different walks of life. That is why he tries to make a relatable comedy that anyone can relate to.
“If I can make you go ‘Man, I remember that’ or ‘Man, my mom used to do that when I was younger too,’ then, I think I’ve done my job. My style when I create comedy is to make you feel at home or like you’ve grown up with me,” says the rising comedian.
Brutha Luv has a lot of humor and funny bones in his craft, but he is earnest about his faith and attitude towards work. “What separates me is my faith in God, my hustle, consistency, my humility. I can listen and take negative or positive criticism; I never get big-headed,” says the actor.
What motivated him to do comedy and build his brand image was his love for both crafts at a young age. But for a season, he found himself stepping away from my passion because of being swayed with what critical people told him to pursue. Finally, however, he found his way back to his first love of comedy and acting after his mom had a severe stroke and his dad’s leg was amputated.
Brutha Luv wants everyone to know that “whatever dream you have, go for it. Never do things based on what you think this person or that person wants you to do. Do the things YOU love. Don’t listen to the naysayers just keep pushing and always grinding and whatever faith you believe keep that first as well you’ll go a long way. No matter how many accolades you get, always stay level headed, grateful, and grounded because all of it can be stripped away. It’s a blessing.” He wants his audience to know that “no matter where you are on the globe you can do it.”
Years from now, the rising comedian and actor sees himself finishing acting school this year, and with hard work, he hopes to be in someone’s movie, TV show or commercial. He hopes that his friends and family can see him flourish. Aside from hoping to meet other celebrities, he wants to get better at his craft.
