For independent hip-hop artist Big Jon, music isn’t just entertainment; it’s storytelling with purpose.
The Baltimore native has officially released his latest single, “Reload,” a cinematic, high-energy record that blends lyrical storytelling with the adrenaline of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises. Now available on all streaming platforms, the single marks another milestone in Big Jon’s growing catalog as he continues carving out his place in hip-hop.
Inspired by blockbuster franchises including Bad Boys, The Punisher, and John Wick, “Reload” places listeners inside an action-packed narrative where the artist takes on crime and corruption through fearless storytelling. Rather than relying on empty punchlines, Big Jon delivers vivid imagery and carefully crafted lyrics that reflect his passion for cinematic songwriting.
Behind the scenes, “Reload” was nearly a year in the making.
Production began in December 2025 when Big Jon teamed up with producer Nathan Medina to create an original sound inspired by records such as Migos’ “Is You Ready,” Metroid Prime 4’s “Volt Forge,” and “Fight Like a Girl” from John Wick: Ballerina. After completing the instrumental, Big Jon spent January 2026 writing the lyrics before traveling to Los Angeles to record the track at Ice Cream Sound Recording Studios in downtown Los Angeles on March 19. Following the recording session, he returned to Baltimore, where producer David Favazza mixed and mastered the song, completing the project in May before its official July 8 release.
For Big Jon, every release represents another step toward a much bigger vision.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Jonathan Harris, better known by his stage name Big Jon, fell in love with hip-hop as a teenager after being inspired by artists including Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Kanye West, and 50 Cent. He began writing his own songs at just 16 years old, performing for classmates and church audiences before putting music on hold while earning a degree in Media Production from Towson University.
After graduating with a 3.5 GPA and spending several years working in broadcasting, Big Jon decided to return to the passion that had always called him back: music.
That decision has already produced impressive momentum.
Since releasing his debut EP, Here I Come, in 2025, he has performed throughout Baltimore, appeared on podcasts and internet radio, earned media coverage, and continued releasing new music while steadily expanding his audience. His commitment to authentic lyricism and meaningful storytelling continues to separate him from an industry often driven by trends rather than substance.
“I care about the art,” Big Jon says. “Lyrics, storytelling, flow, singing, and creating music that people actually connect with, that’s what matters to me.”
His journey is fueled by something even deeper than ambition.
Following the heartbreaking loss of his mother to pancreatic cancer in 2021 and his grandmother in 2025, Big Jon has dedicated his music to honoring their memory. Their encouragement continues to motivate every recording session, every performance, and every new opportunity he pursues.
That next opportunity arrives in early August.
During the first week of August, Big Jon will travel to New York City for a week of recording sessions and media appearances as he continues building momentum around “Reload.” While there, he is scheduled to record his upcoming single, “LEO,” on August 5 at Lounge Recording Studios, the same studio where he previously recorded “Powers” and “Level Up.” The trip will also include interviews and press opportunities as he introduces his music to new audiences in one of the country’s most influential entertainment markets.
With additional music already in development, including the upcoming tracks “LEO” and “Cosmos,” Big Jon isn’t slowing down.
Instead, he’s proving that persistence, vision, and authentic storytelling still have a place in hip-hop. As his audience continues to grow, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Big Jon isn’t chasing trends, he’s building a career designed to last.
