Cameron Diaz to make a return to acting

Cameron Diaz is set to return to the screens after an eight-year break. Jamie Foxx and Diaz will co-star in the upcoming Netflix film “Back in Action,” which marks Diaz’s official retirement from the entertainment industry. Together, Diaz and Foxx previously worked on the sports drama “Any Given Sunday” in 1999 and the 2014 version of “Annie,” which served as Diaz’s last acting role before she officially “retired.”

Cameron Diaz couldn’t find the right words to tell the world that she was coming back to the big screen, so Foxx announced it on Twitter and shared audio from their phone chat. The actress stated in an Instagram story that “(Jamie Foxx) only you could get me back in action” after the news. It’s going to be so much fun, I can’t freaking wait!

Foxx announced on Twitter that film production would start this year, however Netflix has not yet established a release date for it. On Twitter, Foxx shared a recording of the two discussing Diaz’s comeback in a tweet to mark her return.

So Foxx brought in Tom Brady, an NFL player who earlier this year announced his retirement before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 40 days later. Brady has some experience coming back to work after taking a break.

Cameron Diaz continued to be busy by starting an organic wine line despite not being as involved in Hollywood lately. After becoming a mother, Diaz said in a previous interview that she no longer could picture spending 16 hours a day working on a set.

Benji Madden, a singer for the band Good Charlotte, and Diaz got married in 2015 and had their first child, Raddix, in 2020.

From a script he co-wrote with Brendan O’Brien of “Neighbors,” Seth Gordon of “Horrible Bosses” is directing the film. There are no specifics provided about the plot. Production should start later this year, according to Foxx.

Together with Datari Turner, Tim O’Brien, and Mark McNair, Foxx is executive producing “Back in Action.” Beau Bauman (“Central Intelligence”) for Good One Productions and Gordon through Exhibit A are producers.

With Jim Carrey as her co-star in the 1994 picture “The Mask,” Diaz became one of the most commercially successful actors of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Later, she acted in a number of popular romantic comedies, such as “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Charlie’s Angels,” and “Shrek.” However, the character of Miss Hannigan in “Annie” was Diaz’s last appearance in a motion picture after she declared her retirement in 2018. Until Foxx and Netflix showed up, that is.
