Success as an author is often shaped by persistence, purpose, and the courage to tell meaningful stories. For author and entrepreneur Sheetal Ohri, that journey has been shaped by resilience, passion, and a commitment to bringing real-life struggles and human emotions to the forefront through literature.

In a notable milestone for her literary career, Ohri recently received recognition at the New York Big Book Awards in New York, where her two books were honored in separate categories. Her first book, Custodial Battle, received the Distinguished Favorite Independent Press Award under the Inspirational and Motivational/Self-Help category, while her second book, Second Chances – In the Journey of Life, earned recognition in the Relationships category at the NY Big Book Awards.

These accomplishments mark an important chapter in Ohri’s literary journey, reflecting the role storytelling can play in encouraging reflection, resilience, and conversation around real-life challenges.

At the heart of Custodial Battle is an emotional story of a mother without legal status fighting for custodial rights against a child’s father who is a U.S. citizen. Inspired by struggles faced by many families navigating unfamiliar legal systems, the book sheds light on the emotional and legal hardships that can arise during custody disputes, issues that often remain unseen and misunderstood.

Reflecting on the recognition, Ohri shared, “This honor represents more than a personal achievement. It is for every parent who has endured difficult legal battles and moments of uncertainty. I wrote this book to remind people that they are not alone, and this recognition reinforces the importance of sharing stories that inspire strength and hope.”

Her second recognized book, Second Chances – In the Journey of Life, explores the complexities of human relationships and the emotional realities that shape them. Through stories of couples struggling to understand one another, friendships tested by jealousy and distance, and sibling bonds challenged by conflict, the book captures the highs and lows of human connection with honesty and emotional depth. It speaks to experiences of heartbreak, growth, forgiveness, and personal transformation.

Beyond her accomplishments as an author, Ohri’s professional journey reflects a diverse background spanning hospitality, facility management, construction, sales and marketing, media, and communications. As a California Licensed Realtor, she applies her wide-ranging expertise to help clients navigate the real estate market while continuing her passion for helping others.
