Washington, District of Columbia, August 16, 2023 – The Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) has exciting news for comedy enthusiasts and fans of locally-produced content. The eagerly anticipated pilot of the original scripted series “Union” is set to premiere exclusively on the free global streaming platform, District of Columbia Entertainment (DCE). This refreshing show promises to deliver a delightful mix of humor and local talent to a worldwide audience.

A Unique Setting and Star-Studded Cast

Nestled in the heart of Northeast Washington, “Union” was brought to life within the iconic backdrop of the Union District Oyster Bar. What sets this sitcom apart is that it was filmed in an actual, operational bar – a rare and innovative approach to television production. The talented cast, led by Emmy-award winning actor and comedian Tommy Davidson, injects infectious energy and comedic brilliance into “Union.” Davidson, celebrated for his roles in “Proud Family” and “In Living Color,” is joined by esteemed actors Ernest Thomas (known as Roger “Raj” in “What’s Happening!!” and “Everybody Hates Chris”) and Shar Jackson (remembered as “Niecy” from “Moesha”). The ensemble also features Vernon Davis, a two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, adding his star power as a key member of the “Union” cast.

A Testimony to Creativity and Talent

LaToya Foster, OCTFME Director, emphasizes that “Union” symbolizes Washington, DC’s ascent as a prime hub for original content creation. The impressive ensemble of actors, athletes, and award-winning producers underscores the magnetic appeal of the city for creative minds. “At OCTFME, we are incredibly proud of our talented OCTFME production team and the DC creatives who have made OCTFME history in bringing Union, our first scripted series, to life,” says Foster.

Behind the Scenes: Creators and Collaborators

The visionary creator and executive producer of “Union,” Russell Webster, who also happens to be the owner of Union District Oyster Bar and President/CEO of Union District Films, collaborated with Bruce Walker, OCTFME Associate Director of Television and Entertainment, to bring this project to fruition. Walker, co-executive producer of the show, highlights the collaborative spirit behind “Union.” He describes it as a celebration of human connections, shared experiences, and the universal power of laughter. The show allowed DC creatives to collaborate with established actors, as well as renowned directors, producers, and writers with extensive sitcom experience.

Powerhouse Talents Behind the Scenes

“Union” is more than just an entertaining sitcom; it’s a culmination of talents. The head writer, Bill Boulware, has a decorated portfolio that includes co-creating hit series such as “227,” “The Parkers,” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Chuck Vinson, an accomplished director, who has lent his creative genius to hit shows like “The Cosby Show” and “Living Single,” directed the pilot. Their collective expertise promises a captivating narrative that resonates with audiences far and wide.

An Exciting Future for “Union”

Jessica Washington, Vice President of Artist and Content Development at Discovered, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are very pleased to be working with the team at DCE Network, OCTFME, and the legendary actors in the cast of Union. We look forward to sharing this show with our users and working with DCE Network to continually deliver engaging content for the fans.”

“Union” isn’t just a sitcom; it’s a journey into the heart of Washington, DC, where the rich tapestry of the local community is brought to life through relatable characters, engaging storylines, and top-tier performances. With its premiere on DCE, “Union” is poised to capture the hearts of audiences across the globe, offering a fresh perspective on life in the nation’s capital.
