Rapper Gerard “Ogee” Allen Becomes Living Proof of Never Being Too Old to Achieve Your Dreams

Gerard “Ogee” Allen is a Harlem-born and Bronx-raised rap artist. He is the living proof of the saying “you are never too old to follow your dreams”. He is a father of four and a grandfather to ten. Before pursuing his dreams of becoming a rapper, he worked in the Housing authority for twenty-seven years.

The rapper’s song “I Feel Good Today” is his message to everyone about what they should be feeling from when they wake up in the morning until it is time for them to go to bed at night.  Ogee Allen believes that no matter the situation someone is going through in life, someone is going through something even worse. “God put all of us on this earth for a reason, and there will always be people trying to stop you from doing what you do to make your life better. This is what inspired me to record “I Feel Good Today.” says the rap artist.

Ogee’s personality very much reflects his music. He is a fun guy, and listeners can hear all the fun in his music. He is the type of guy that can turn a sad moment into a happy moment just by his mere presence. The rap artist hopes that more people dealing with sadness, depression, or any negative feelings would listen to his songs and find solace. He makes it his goal to create tracks that will console those going through hardships.

Ogee’s message through his music is that you are never too old, and it is never too late to live out your dreams. He urges people to never sit back and think bad about themselves. “If you’re feeling sad or depressed for any reason, go outside and walk around,” adds the artist. “Don’t just sit at home and let yourself go. Whatever it is that you like doing, put it in your mind and do it; make it happen.  There’s a lot to do. I want to see people start enjoying themselves through my music.”

Being a seasoned man who entered the rap industry, Ogee got profound insights into the Hip Hop industry. His goal is to replace “hate with loyalty,” as he would put it. After noticing how artists in the hip-hop industry would step on each other’s toes to get ahead, Ogee committed to only creating music that would build up without tearing anyone down.

Ogee’s rap influencers are hip-hop pioneers like Mellie Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Busy Bee Starski, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, etc. His biggest musical influence is Snoop Dogg because he came a long way with his music. Music changed his whole life around. He went from gang banging to the top of the charts. He looks up to rappers like  LL Cool J who came up in the music business and became a famous actor. Another inspiration is 50 Cent, who changed his life. Ogee also hopes to mimic the artist’s commitment towards bettering others as he has bettered himself.

Allen believes that rap music would have been much better if the younger rappers got along with the older rappers and combined the flows. He believes that the guidance they give would help the next generation of rappers.
