Johnny Hachem: The Lebanese-Ukrainian composer is a winner of different international awards

The music industry in the US is huge. With a lot of mainstream and underground musicians trying to make it big in the industry, it is only a handful of extremely talented individuals who shine bright in the crowd.

It is true that nurturing talent takes practice, dedication, willingness to sacrifice and, of course, determination to keep the goal clear, even when the spot gets tight. When it comes to utter devotion and perseverance, Johnny Hachem, a Lebanese-Ukrainian composer and pianist, is one musician who has proved that with hard work, you can achieve anything in life. He not only successfully cultivated his talents and became one of the few names in the industry but also won a music composition award at International Composition Conference in 2009. Then in 2021, he managed to win big at the Classic Pure Vienna International Composition as well.

The unparalleled achievements of this artist have no limitations as Johnny has performed as a soloist in various concerts and international festivals in multiple countries such as Ukraine, Lebanon and Switzerland. Apart from that, he has shown what a skilled pianist he is while performing in France, Austria, Germany, England, Spain, Poland, Romania, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Belarus, South Korea, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar.

As for learning piano and music composition, Johnny got his training from the Lebanese higher Conservatory of Music and earned a master’s degree with distinction. Since then, there has been no looking back for him. In fact, Johnny has been composing for more than 20 years and has produced music for orchestras and chamber music. Moreover, many symphony orchestras have been playing his compositions on the stages in various countries across the world.

When asked about his favorite music genre, he replied, “My music is based heavily on the style of Neo-romanticism with some modernistic elements.” According to him, he wishes to see classic romanticism in the young blood of today, and therefore he tends to mix modernism with classics to create some soulful and melodious arrangements.

Due to a troubled childhood because of the war in Lebanon, Johnny shared that coping with his academic journey with all those psychological conditions was very challenging. But even after school, whenever there was a ceasefire, he would snuggle up to play the piano which sums up his passion for music.

While sharing his experiences, Johnny revealed, “My mom used to play the piano while my dad played the violin. They were my biggest influence. I remember very well how touching it was to hear them play together when I was a child.” Besides his parents, other renowned names in the industry have deeply impacted him, including Richard Wagner and John Williams. “Richard’s music affected me a lot when I was young, and it used to take me to another world. I felt that I could live my best feelings while listening to it. I wanted to be a composer like him and compose music that affects people and makes them feel better,” explained the piano genius. Fast forward to the present, he added, “I believe John Williams is the best composer in today’s time and age. His music is breathtaking. He is a wonderful conductor and pianist as well. I learn a lot from him.”

He also composed a very successful orchestral piece, ‘The Battle of Siddim’, now known as ‘The Valley of the Dead Sea.’ This composition has been chosen and performed by The Lebanese Philharmonic, Lebanon, Lublin Philharmonic, Koshalin Symphony & Torun Symphony orchestra in Poland in just one year.

Oriental Piano Project is one of the most uniquely composed tunes he has worked on. For that, he chose a good number of old traditional songs from the Orient that had never been written for the piano before. The project became extremely successful as these arrangements were performed in more than 15 countries in the last 12 years and were greatly admired by the audience.

Currently, Johnny is preparing for a series of piano concerts that he will perform in various European countries in the near future and says that the proceeds will be donated to the families affected by the war in Lebanon and Ukraine. He believes donating to humanitarian causes gives meaning to his musical message.

Johnny Hachem has come a long way, and even though he faced a lot of hurdles, he refused to give up. And finally, he has been successful in achieving his dreams. Now he wishes to guide the aspiring musicians and pianists in the world to accomplish what he has done over the years of hard work. “Do not try to imitate successful musicians and stars. Instead, do the opposite and draw your own unique path. This is the key to success,” he stressed. He is an ambitious, passionate, and emotional person who values deep feelings and cherishes others’ happiness. Johnny Hachem’s message is about peace, and he uses his music to spread it across the world.
